Russell Terriers

If you have owned an Airedale for years, and now feel they are too big for you..OR, your children want a smaller terrier for a pet, or junior handling..have you considered a Russell Terrier. They are 10 to 12 inches in height, and weigh approximately 9/to 15 pounds. Their life expectancy is 12 to 14 years, similar to an Airedale.

A Russell Terrier is a happy-go-lucky addition to the family. They are very playful and affectionate, ready for any activity the family wants to pursue. Russells are good playmates for children if you first teach your children to interact appropriately . As puppies they are small, but wiry and can wiggle out of young arms. Supervision is necessary as you introduce any new puppy to a family with children.

About Russells

Russells were bred to run in packs, for use in fox hunts. Thus they are bred to get along with other dogs. This does not mean it is safe to turn them loose in a dog park! They are small. and bigger dogs may be tempted to chase these lively little ones!

Russells come in three coat varieties, rough, broken and smooth. The smooth coats need only an occasional bath and regular brush with soft brush. The rough and broken coats will need the longer hairs brushed and pulled out to keep their proper shape. Nails should be cut every couple of weeks
